Pete and Ruth Mitchell have served as church planters for Mission to the World (MTW) in Marseilles, France since 1990.
"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in?.. And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?" (Romans 10:14 NIV) France is a secular, post-Christian nation where basic assumptions concerning human nature, the world, and the person of God have gradually drifted away from the teaching of the Bible. Even though the existing evangelical and Reformed Church is holding up the banner of the faith, France has a growing generation which has never heard the gospel. Children, youth, and young adults make up the "lost generation" in France.
The Mitchell's strong desire is that future generations in France will discover faith in the living God. Therefore, Pete and Ruth have worked with the Marseilles church planting team where they were ministering among youth, single adults, and young couples.

Biographical Sketch
Pete and Ruth had the privilege of hearing the good news of Jesus Christ from their parents. Pete was reared in South Korea, the son of missionaries. The name of Jesus and songs about the gospel are some of Pete's earliest memories. Ruth gained a clear understanding of trusting Christ in all things as she watched her own parents leave their homelands of Australia and New Zealand to follow God's call on their lives. They both found great joy being part of families that demonstrated lives of ministry to others.
Pete and Ruth met at King College, in Bristol, Tennessee. Pete's study of European history challenged him to consider the spiritual needs in France. After their marriage in 1985, they moved to the North Shore of Boston where Pete studied at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Following ordination by Tennessee Valley Presbytery, Pete accepted a call to his home town of Nashville where he served as pastor to children.
The Lord knit together many experiences and gifts which prepared Pete and Ruth for ministry in Marseille, where they joined a church planting team in 1990. It is the Mitchell's strong desire that future generations in France will discover faith in the living God. Therefore, Pete and Ruth have chosen to work with the Marseille church planting team where they minister among youth, single adults, and young couples.
