Biographical Sketch
Joel and Heidi serve under Wycliffe. Joel grew up in East Ridge Presbyterian Church where his parents, Roy and Lucille Witt still attend. He graduated from Letourneau College. Heidi is a missionary kid born in Peru, South America where her parents were serving.
Joel and Heidi's first assignment started in 1981 when they left for language school and an assignment in Peru. Joel served as a aircraft mechanic. Heidi served where the need was greatest at the moment secretary, Scripture-on-tape lab, postal service, and dining room manager.
The next assignment was in Waxhaw, NC at the technical support center. It was there that Joel moved from aviation to construction and maintenance. This relocation was brought about by Miriam's need for special medical attention.
Next Joel's mechanical background and experience was used in Mexico to assist the translation teams who work with the Bibleless people groups of Mexico. Their most recent assignment was in Alotau, Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea, where Joel was a center manager, administering the practical details of several translation teams for Wycliffe. See a page from the Gospel of John which the members of the Wycliffe team in Papua New Guinea developed.
They now serve Wycliffe in the Mexico branch near Tucson, Arizona.
