From  the  Senior Pastor . . .

Linda’s car needed routine maintenance. So Monday morning I drove to our mechanic’s, parked the car, got out, took three or four steps toward his office door, and then realized – I had driven there in my own car, not Linda’s.

At least, I didn’t go in and ask for the work to be done, only to be informed that it wasn’t yet time for my oil to be changed and tires rotated.

I’m happy to tell you that all I did was smile to myself, look around to see if anyone was watching, get back into the car, drive home, go into the house, explain to Linda what I had done – I think I heard her stifle a giggle – get the keys to her car, and then drive it to the shop.

I can offer you a thousand justifications for why this happened, but you know why this happened.
I’d like to tell you that my mind was distracted with thoughts of gratitude to God for our wonderful time of worship Sunday morning, for the glorious music that lifted my heart to the King’s throne room, for the sobering and exhilarating celebration of the Lord’s Supper, for the encouraging sermon Pastor Mullinax preached from Galatians 5 Sunday evening. That’s what I would like to tell you, but I know it wouldn’t be true.

Or perhaps, on a much more mundane level, I could explain to you how my mind was filled with happy thoughts about the Giants (yea Eli) defeating the nasty Patriots (boo Tom) in the Super Bowl. But that wouldn’t be true either.

Because the truth is, I just wasn’t thinking. I knew what I was supposed to be doing – taking Linda’s car in to be worked on – but I just wasn’t paying attention to the details.
I think we all know why I did what I did Monday morning. It isn’t something I would have done ten or twenty years ago. I don’t need to offer any further excuses or explanations. We all know why I ended up Monday morning at East Ridge Alignment with the wrong car.

Well, just in case you’re losing sight of the details, I want to remind you that Saturday evening, February 23, Michael Card will be in concert here at CPC.

Remember, we aren’t charging admission, but you must have a ticket. Admission is free, but you’ll need a ticket to get in.

We’ll take up an offering to help alleviate expenses. But the Session is using money out of the MEF to underwrite the cost of this concert to provide you with an opportunity to invite a neighbor, a relative, a friend, a fellow worker, a classmate, etc, – to invite someone to your church on a Saturday evening for this special event.

Michael Card is a gifted songwriter and singer. He is a member of a PCA congregation in Nashville and author/composer of hymn #42 in the Trinity Hymnal.

The concert will be entertaining. It will also be evangelistic. Mr. Card will present the Gospel in a clear and biblical manner. So I hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity.

Call the church for tickets. Operators are standing by! I just thought I’d remind you about what is taking place here Saturday evening, February 23. Because sometimes – at least for me as of late – it’s just hard to remember the details.
