CPC Newsletter - February 13, 2008
From the Senior Pastor . . .
It’s Monday morning, and I’m at East Ridge Alignment to get new tires for Linda’s car. I’m proud to tell you that I drove her car to the garage this morning on the first try.
I thought I’d take a moment and tell you about our Sunday evening services for the next few months. I want you to know what is happening so you might take full advantage of the wonderful opportunities God has placed before you.
This coming Sunday evening Pastor Mullinax will continue his study in Galatians. If you’ve been there Sunday evenings, you know how clearly and helpfully he has opened to us Paul’s message to the churches of Galatia.
The last Sunday evening of February our shepherding groups will meet at various times and locations. If you are not yet plugged into a shepherding group, please call the church office and we’ll gladly place you and your family under the immediate care of one of our elders.
The night before, on Saturday evening, February 23, is the Michael Card concert here at CPC. If you haven’t yet asked for tickets, call the church. We still have a limited number available.
The first Sunday evening in March, Pastor Mullinax will, most likely, conclude his study in Galatians. The next Sunday evening, March 9, I hope to finally wrap up our extended study in John’s epistles.
Then, Palm Sunday evening, March 16, we will gather in the Schum Fellowship Hall to celebrate a Seder meal. Seder is the meal eaten together by the Jews in celebration of Passover. Passover is the celebration of the deliverance of Israel out of Egypt. Jesus and His disciples were celebrating Passover on the night before He was betrayed. When we eat and drink at the Lord’s Table the first Sunday morning of each month, we are celebrating the continuation and perfecting of the Old Testament Passover Festival.
Sunday evening, March 23, there will not be an evening service here at CPC. As has become our tradition, that morning we will have participated in an extended time of worship, rejoicing together in response to the good news that “He is risen! He is risen, indeed!”
And then in April, we will be privileged to have our own Dr. Dan Steere teach us on three consecutive Sunday evenings about our history.
Dan will help us to more clearly understand the importance of events that took place at the time of the Protestant Reformation, especially in the British Isles. Scripture teaches us to remember our past in order that we might be better prepared to face the unfolding of our Lord’s purposes in future days.
So that’s the lineup for the next several weeks. Of course, as many of you know, the children’s choirs practice at this same time. So there is something appropriate for the entire family. If you haven’t been joining us Sunday evenings, I would encourage you to do so. To end the Lord’s Day in His House with His people is a good way to complete the first day of the new week.
