From the Senior Pastor. . .

One hundred and eight-two children attended Music Camp last week. The majority of them were not members of CPC families. Once more, as has been true for many years, Music Camp allows us to touch the lives of many in our community who do not worship with us on a regular basis.

If you were here Sunday evening, you realize that a lot of good things were accomplished in a very short time. The children learned again about some of our Lord’s parables and were helped to understand a few of the implications for their lives in the stories Jesus told.

The program Sunday evening was amazing. The children were exceptionally well prepared to fill their assigned roles. But I do have concern. I’m a little worried about just how much our director of music, Jeremy Gaines, enjoyed his role as a game show host. Hopefully there weren’t any talent scouts in the audience.

During the ice cream social that followed, I was approached by many who thanked me for the positive impact of Music Camp on their children and grandchildren.
It was my pleasure to inform them that I had almost nothing to do with Music Camp. For three of the five days, I wasn’t even here.

Obviously, Jeremy should receive most of the thanks for the planning of the program and making sure that all the bases were covered.

Once more Mindy (Horton) and Melissa (Ferrel) should receive gold medals for their ability to teach and direct a program of such high quality and professionalism. Clearly the children love and respect them. Linda and I are always stunned to watch that many children for that length time remain focused upon the task at hand, eager to please the one directing them with great enthusiasm and energy.

Chris (Gregory), our director of youth and family ministries, was the Bible teacher for the week. He thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of teaching the children. And hopefully, seeds of truth were planted in fertile soil and will produce a harvest of genuine righteousness.

Boo (Mullinax) was responsible for finding various means to help the children burn off whatever excess energy might be threatening to erupt from within them. She was assisted by Reba Gregory, Leigh Alvarez, David Herberich and Caroline Alvarez.

Domekia Gaines taught kindergarten. She was assisted by Mindy Haywood, Avery Gaines, Scott Beatty, Micah Neuschwanger, Kelsey Fowler and Andrew Schreiner.

Tammy Higgins taught first grade. She was assisted by Madeleine Jennings, Esther McEachern, Olivia Bowers and Emelia Reynolds.

Second grade was taught by Tracy Rowell. She was assisted by Cara Martof, Katherine
Gaither, Mary Elizabeth Gaither, Olivia Rowell and Bethany Rowell.

Edyne Vatt taught third grade. She was assisted by Alyssa Griffin, Elizabeth Beatty, Emily Elwood, Hope Horne and Joyce Muiubwa.

Fourth through sixth grade was taught by Mindy Horton. She was assisted by Ellen Gaither, Julia Bowers, Jamie Martof and Bethany Griffin.

Melissa Ferrel directed drama, assisted by Ruth Stevenson, Jonah Gaines and Emily Vatt.

Susan Steere, Eva Herberich and Morgan Ferrel were responsible for crafts.

Carol Beatty and Amy Wooten arranged snacks.

Carrie Harper served as administrator.

And Mollye Coon covered nursery.

Wow! Now that’s quite a lineup. It was clearly a team effort!

It was a great week. And I am grateful for one and all.
