From the Director of Music Ministries. . .

This past Sunday the children wrapped up their Sunday evening choir for the year with a party. Seeing all of our children chowing down on some neon-colored cupcakes, teddy grahams, pretzels, and kool-aid was quite a sight. We then took the younger kids to the playground and the older kids outside to play kickball.

It was freezing! The wind was gusting enough to make the smaller children stumble. It felt as if snow would soon fall from the sky. One of the boys kicked a ball, and I watched as it boomeranged forty feet to the left. All of this on May 11, Mother’s Day! I’ll have to ask Al Gore for an explanation.

With the cooler temperatures, it may be hard to believe that Music Camp is less than a month away. This summer, June 9-13 to be exact, we will have many, many children singing, playing, learning and laughing. Music Camp is a wonderful ministry that I have inherited and hopefully nurtured. You can help nurture it as well. Here’s how:

 1. You can pray for Music Camp. This year we are covering the story of Joseph. Pray that through this the children will learn of God and His provisions and plans for our lives. Pray for children who do not yet know the Lord to be brought to this camp. Pray for strength for the workers. Pray that God will be glorified through this event.

 2. You can send children to Music Camp. Not only do we mean your children, but we also mean neighborhood children, nieces, nephews, ball team members, etc. Offer to bring them here. Talk it up to them. We want every child who can, to come and learn about God and His grace and mercy.

 3. You can volunteer to help in Music Camp. We have all teaching positions filled, but we always need assistants in each class. We have needs in crafts. We have a carnival on Friday that we need help staffing. Teenagers, we will need you. Adults, we really need you. Let me know you are available, and I will plug you in somewhere.

Music Camp will be a blast. It always is. Help us in these three ways so that we can reach as many as possible.

Something else that will take place at CPC in June is A Night of Singing. This service will be just that — a night of singing. On Sunday, June 22, in the evening service, several soloists and groups in the church will get together and present a night filled with singing praises.

You will participate as well with congregational songs and through listening and praising with the singer. This is a great service to invite those who may be less comfortable with a more formal setting. Plus, with the talent the Lord has planted in this church, it will be an amazing night of song. Don’t miss it.
