From the Director Music Ministries...
Let me tell you a secret.
I love Music Camp.
I know that it sounds weird for a 34 year old to say that he loves a week that saps all the energy out of every adult involved, but I do.
I love the hectic atmosphere of the first morning when everyone is trying to find their class. I love the ear-splitting “GOOD MORNING!!!” that is delivered from every voice. I love Tony Chestnut!
I love the Missions spotlight we have each year (this year we will focus on Haiti). I love the nickels, dimes, quarters, pennies and dollars that the children bring in from their hiding spots (or floors) every day. I love how the parents match their children’s love for missions by giving freely on Sunday night.
I love seeing the children learning new songs. I love how the teachers use the songs to share the Bible with these little ones. I love how the children are so pumped up from day 1 to learn as much as they can as fast as they can.
I love recess. I will never see enough relay races involving inflatable ducks, baseball bats, baskets and such. I love chicken fat! I love the fact that children have a limitless amount of energy, and so does Boo Mullinax!
I love snacks. Where else can several adults gather around and talk while muching on goldfish and popsicles. I love watching children trade colors of popsicles like they were treasured baseball cards.
I love crafts. I love marker-colored hands and glue-covered hands and any kind of hands that are working. I love the pictures of all the kids on the quilt. I love the parent’s face when they get their child’s treasures.
I love Bible class. I love how Mr. Chris focuses the children on the impact of the Bible stories in their lives. I love that this class helps him make a connection with these kids for a later relationship.
I love watching the actors. Most of the girls have their part memorized the day after it is assigned. I love having to pull the boys to the finish line. I love having them see what they are capable of.
I love the first day we go into the sanctuary. I love the wide-eyed expressions, the timidity of some, and the excitement of the situation with others. O that we all might have these when we enter into the house of the Lord.
I love the teachers and volunteers. I love the relationships made at a different, more equal level between teenagers and adults. I love the excitement of a Monday and the relief of a Friday.
I love the Sunday evening when the program is presented. I love the parents showing up an hour early. I love the children being geeked-up and nervous. I love hearing the youngest kids scream the first song. I love the pictures being taken afterward to remember the occasion.
Next week is Music Camp. Help us by praying. Help us by bringing your child or neighbor’s child. Help us by coming Sunday evening, June 13, to support the children.
I love Music Camp. You should, too.
